Putting foot on brake and releasing the parking brake are not required to start the bike if you shut it off in neutral. My routine is almost always turn key, put helmet on, get on bike, hit mode, start. The mode button adds maybe two seconds to the start process. Then I put my foot on the brake, put it in gear, release the parking brake, and go. These latter steps are the same for any car or pickup.
