OK, I cancelled my reservation at Knights Inn and got a reservation at The Adobe Inn. Jeez,:( at 2178 Main Ave. I see that the Adobe Inn is in the stretch to be avoided. Oh, well, I'll stick it out as I don't want to change it again.

:yikes:
With a crime rate of 62 per one thousand residents, Durango has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 16. Within Colorado, more than 92% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Durango.
Importantly, when you compare Durango to other communities of similar population, then Durango crime rate (violent and property crimes combined) is quite a bit higher than average. Regardless of how Durango does relative to all communities in America of all sizes, when NeighborhoodScout compared it to communities of similar population size, its crime rate per thousand residents stands out as higher than most.
The crime data that NeighborhoodScout used for this analysis are the seven offenses from the uniform crime reports, collected by the FBI from 17,000 local law enforcement agencies, and include both violent and property crimes, combined.
Now let us turn to take a look at how Durango does for violent crimes specifically, and then how it does for property crimes. This is important because the overall crime rate can be further illuminated by understanding if violent crime or property crimes (or both) are the major contributors to the general rate of crime in Durango.
For Durango, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included forcible rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon. According to NeighborhoodScout's analysis of FBI reported crime data, your chance of becoming a victim of one of these crimes in Durango is one in 145.
In addition, NeighborhoodScout found that a lot of the crime that takes place in Durango is property crime. Property crimes that are tracked for this analysis are burglary, larceny over fifty dollars, motor vehicle theft, and arson. In Durango, your chance of becoming a victim of a property crime is one in 18, which is a rate of 55 per one thousand population.
Importantly, we found that Durango has one of the highest rates of motor vehicle theft in the nation according to our analysis of FBI crime data. This is compared to communities of all sizes, from the smallest to the largest. In fact, your chance of getting your car stolen if you live in Durango is one in 322.

"Put on yer boots tighten yer belt pull that hat down..Gonna be a few wild night's in Durango",
Someone commented about security a few threads back. I'm sure for a small fee per each ryder we can get security. Specially if you make them aware, "They are accountable" Besides, it wouldn't be the 1st time I took turns on watch.:doorag:. Knock'm down:p ,then ask if they lost something in the crowd of Spyders"..
Check this out: http://money.usnews.com/money/retire...lorado/durango. US News named it one of the best places to retire, and says the crime rate is average.
Should have had it in Henderson, NV. The #2 safest city in America per Forbes.
High crime rate and armed Texans in the same place makes for an interesting get together. Maybe tootall i s right and we should circle the Spyders
Guess you are right Hawk. I stand corrected. Lol
We are going to trust that the Knights Inn area will be okay. BTW, what do we have insurance for? MM:)
Geese. Little paranoia out here I see. Many of us end up hanging in the motel parking lots till the wee hours talking and drinking anyway--- so we can keep an eye on things. 😉
I'm not worried in the least.
:agree:
First off there is always someone looking at the Spyders so it draws too much attention for an easy crime with that many Spyders there. Take off your gps or anything else that you're concerned about and lock them up when you go to your room. I have been cross country many times and one time I did have some tools stolen when I was by myself and parked in a bad spot and forgot to lock my trailer. :banghead: That's the only time I've ever had an issue and a gun, knife or big stick wouldn't have helped me then seeing I never saw who took it. I figure if nothing happened at the Chicago owners event I'll do just fine at the Durango owners event. :doorag:

if you come to Maine you will not need a gun or a knife, but you may need a fork and spoon, they are just for looks tho, we eat lobsta' and corn, and clams, and, hotdogs, and lobsta' rolls, an Italian sandwigess' with our hands the fork is to keep your buddies hand out of your french fries and the spoon is for icecream which should eat at least twice a day.:ohyea:
FB and I have traveled by bike ALL over the US and Canada by ourselves.... Have NEVER had an issue... and we have stayed at some places that I wouldn't go back to in hind sight..Ask FB about the night we spent in a brothel... well we didn't know that piece of information til we were in the room and starting to dry out from riding through Hurricane Opel....LOl.
There are going to be so many Spyder folks there, well ya know what they say about safety in numbers...LOL
I ain't skeeeered.
