Looking for F3 Accessory switched circuit, found these wires - oops!

I am trying to hard wire a GPS to my 2015 F3-S.
The wiring under the left cover has what looks like the switched accessory circuit I've seen in videos.
However, it is not labeled as such. This is the tag on the bundle I found:



Notice REV 00 November 26 2014. This is an early F3.

I removed one inch of the black cloth tape and there are 2 wires only slightly bare on the ends.
The wires are not connected to anything.
I cannot tell what color they are, they both look black, but it was dark and I need to check again with a brighter light.

In any case, I put a circuit tester on them with ignition on.
Instead of getting a voltage reading I heard a whirring noise when both probes made contact. Yikes.:banghead:
I taped them off and the bike started, so I hope I didn't fry anything with that whirring noise.


Can anyone tell me if this is indeed a switched accessory circuit?
Any clue what the hell the whirring was?
I realize I have to test for 12+ volts ignition on, but I am paranoid now.
Any advice appreciated.

Not sure which wire is which off the top of my head, but the accessory wires under that left panel are only hot “when the engine is running”. Believe that’s correct.

They both look black in the picture too.
If an accessory circuit was hot only when the engine is running
you would have to start the engine to set up the GPS or whatever else.
That doesn't seem right to me.

That is indeed the switched accessory circuit.
After stripping the wires a bit I could make contact with the tester leads.
The whirring still seems strange., though.
I guess because it is such an early model it has the uninformative label and the 2 black wires.

What type was your circuit tester. If it was a light bulb, it could carry enough current to ground the circuit and activate something.

I used my ancient radio shack circuit tester with 2 metal leads set on 50 volts.
Turns out those wires are NOT the accessory circuit. I should have look in my shop manual first. It refers to them as splice points.
You have to tap into a continuous pair of wires that have a white label 'Customer accessory circuit', tucked above the dead end pair I found.
Can Am made it extremely difficult to reach.
I did a search looking for posts before I dove in.
I know this is sour grapes but I gotta say I am disappointed in the total lack of help.

adipaola - wish I had found your post earlier! I just did the same thing. I cut that same set of wires. Did you have have to do anything with them once cut? What do they go to?

:oldpost: The last post before yours Spyder465 was put up almost a year ago now, and adipaola hasn't even visited the Forum in almost 6 months! So you might not want to hold your breath while waiting for an answer... :rolleyes:

Even if you don't read the entire thread to see if your question has already been answered or not, it always pays to check the date of the First post in a thread AND at least the Last Few posts before you put up a reply or ask a question of one of the earlier posters. ;) While we do like to keep all the related info together if we can, thread archeology, especially if it's archeology on a thread anything much older than this, just doesn't always work. :sour:
