I cannot get my 660 to connect to my computer to up-date my maps.
I was able to up-date my Garmin Nuvi before hand so I know the cable is good.
Anyone else had this problem?

Did you first open Garmin Express and then plug in your unit? I've found that the Garmin software just works slowly when first connecting my 590 to the computer. You might consider disconnecting the 660 from the computer, closing Garmin Express, plug in the 660, wait a few minutes and then open Express if it doesn't open automatically.
I tried it several ways (including your method) and still it does not work.
I almost believe it is the quick connector that locks on the back of the 660.
When I look at the devices under the device manager it is not there.
It should show up as a mass storage unit.
are you sure you have the Garmin wire?
i tried to use a regular UBS wire and it did not work.
mine says Garmin in the USB side of the wire
good luck

Geo,
Yes because I just updated my Garmin Nuvi before I tried the 660 and I was able
to connect to the Nuvi OK
I think it is the clip on adapter that is bad. I will see if I can borrow one to test it with.
Thanks for the help,
Bogie
I have always had trouble getting mine to be found by the Garmin software... :banghead:
I think that the software is a bit fussy about exactly WHEN you hook up the GPS to it... :dontknow:
I've been able to get mine updated. but it is usually a struggle.
Good luck! :gaah:
1. ensure the GPS is off
2. connect usb cable
3. check to see that the gps powers up, does NOT into map mode, and that the internal drive is listed in your "This PC" or File Explorer.
If a Mac, the drive should appear on the desktop.
4. If #3 is a go launch Garmin Express.
5. If #3 or #4 refuse to work contact Garmin directly.

Just ran into the same thing with my Nuvi 58 today.
This cured the problem for me:

As Neil said it is likely that it is a Windows problem. I had the same problem with a Nuvi after a software update. It would not connect to my pc. After talking to Garmin's tech support he was able to help me with the fix. Check and see if you can see it in Windows explorer.
