Just wondering, does it hurt anything leaving the ignition key in the Spyder all the time?
Myself, I never do but I think that my buddy does. Just wondering if this might cause problems because of the chip that's in it.

Can it cause problems? IT SURE CAN! But not because of the chip per se tho... :lecturef_smilie:
If you leave the key in the ignition, the little 'rain flap' that springs into place to protect the cylinder from any water entry while the key is out won't work & you'll likely be directing any rain &/or condensation that forms overnight down the open hatch & along the channels in the key directly into the works of the cylinder! And as surprising as that may seem, even the smallest amount of condensation &/or rain in the cylinder can create some fairly significant issues in there, or in the ignition wiring.....
I keep my bike garaged whenever I am not riding. Therefore my key is in the bike 100% of the time when it is in the garage.
I only take the key out when on a ride and stop to leave the bike unattended. My Spyder is in a locked garage otherwise and the key stays in the ignition, as did all my previous bikes… no problems have ever been encountered.
Was reported of key chip failure to read ,when was too cold left in garage over night. Don’t know yr model
My key is always in the ignition except when on a ride and stopped for lunch or overnight at motels. At home, it's in a locked shed, key in, parking brake off.
.
I don't leave the key in the :spyder2:, the cars or the poor, old, slow V-Max. Don't leave the key in the house door either. Firearms are locked in the safe ( unless I'm carrying)
Guess I don't understand leaving the key in a valuable machine any time. nojoke

I leave the key in the ignition all the time I'm on the seat. Rain or shine, day or night. When I get off the seat I always take the key out.
Does anyone leave their keys in their car's ignition when it's parked in the garage? Why?
On my truck keeping the key in keeps the Body Computer module turned on. Like a dog, it thinks were going to go for a ride. Takes a few days, but it does kill the battery eventually. There is no current drain on the Spyder when the key is in and off -- I checked.
I do not leave the key in the car's ignition in a locked garage as I think a thief would likely steal it... most thieves know how to start a car.... as opposed to...
I do leave the key in the Spyder in the same car garage as I hope most thieves would not know the sequence one has to go through to start the Spyder... plus I know where the key is and don't have to waste time looking, fumbling around as to which darned pocket I left it in. :gaah:
I leave my key in all the time in the garage. I leave my key in my silverado but pull it out a couple clicks, hate the beep beep if it's in all the way.
Not in the ignition but in the glovebox when stored in the garage and not riding.
My Spyder is garaged and I never leave the key in it. Why make it easier to steal regardless of the odds ?
Keys and locks: Keeps an honest person from messing with it, just slows down a thief. Depends on your vicinity in this world,
but crime in the country is getting worse. To each their own, personally I don't lock anything up at home, bad enough your
property is missing, then you have to fix broken doors and windows too.... JMHO ....Bill
Well I figure the thieves will hit you guys before me. ;)
