Sorry if this is a dumb question, I've got the saddle bag kit on the way and I'm trying to get the spider prepared while I'm waiting. The problem I'm having is getting the turn signals off. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough, but as I turn the nut on the inside to loosen the bolt the signal turns on the outside and looks like I would break something if I forced it.

Thanks again, all the information on this site has been invaluable.

Just got off the phone with Honda of Tulsa.

They said they are doing their recalls in this order:

New bikes in stock (can't be sold until their done)

Existing customer bikes by the order sold.

Sounds like I will be many months away from this being corrected. Apparently they are not concerned about any potential liability issues should my steering lock up.

Is this the way all dealers are approaching this? It seems like existing bikes on the road should have priority over unsold bikes. :gaah:

I'm not really thrilled about this.
I was to pick up my :spyder:today for the shift switch replacement repair.
Got a call from the dealer that they cannot release my :spyder:until the new DPS is installed.:chill:

The DPS is being shipped today. Should have it in next week and my :spyder:back by next weekend. With all the issues I have had w/ my :spyder: this year I wanted to have at least a week of ryding before taking my long distance trip. Plus I have a set of triple plays I wanted to get on and perhaps some hiway pegs before my trip.

I hope that these DPS are as "robust" as they say they are and there are no "side effects" that cause more issues, as this will be the third event I've missed this year (Daytona, Chicago the first two).

I was planning on getting the DPS replaced after SitS when I need to get an oil change.

I hope they get this right the first time.

So I'm in the middle of a trip. Pit stopped in my home town of Utica, NY to have a new tire put on.

I had verified ahead of time with DDS MotorSports that I could ship them a Kuhmo tire and have it installed. Per plan, my stock rear tire was absolutely ready to be replaced by time I hit Utica. I could have gotten another 500 miles out of it, but it wasn't worth the chance. I had 9700 miles on it and about 6 minor burnouts. - or was that 7 or 8?

I stopped into DDS on Tuesday and they told me to bring the Spyder in at 9am Wednesday morning to change the tire which I did. I waited for maybe and hour and a half or two on Wednesday morning for them to change the tire, and check out my o2 sensor fault codes.

Their fee to mount the tire and swap I felt was extremely reasonable, and cheaper than other dealers I've seen prices from. Belt seems to be perfectly aligned and they were aware of the belt tension bulletin from BRP.

As far as the o2 sensor, it threw a code 3 times on me in two days after I left Erie, PA on Sunday. DDS's tech didn't find anything current code-wise or wrong with the sensor on his first pass. I took the Spyder out for a spin to see friends and within a mile of riding got a check engine light and O2 error.

Back to DDS I went, and they told me they could work on it at 3pm... (It was now 1pm). So I went out to lunch, and returned at 3pm. I was back out the door and on my Spyder at 4:15pm.

Turns out that my Juicebox Pro is causing the O2 error. I suspected that it could be involved, but given my previous O2 sensor failure and that of other owners, I thought it might be the sensor again. Given the JB was causing the error, and nothing was wrong I was charged for 1/2 hour of tech time... Which was perfectly reasonable given I introduced the issue with the JB Pro... At least now I know something isn't right there and need to find a solution. I wouldn't have known for sure if I had made assumptions. Why it took 1100 miles to get the first code is beyond me. I've set the JB to a "zero" map (Stock spyder) and haven't gotten a code yet though I'm sure I'm running lean again.

So a big thumbs up to DDS... They scheduled me the next day for the tire, and really took care of me and didn't charge an arm and a leg. This falls in line with what I've experienced at other dealers when I had issues in the middle of a road trip - granted I had a few days to play with in this case. Seems most understand you are far away from home and don't have days to wait for service work.

DDS is the only sport bike dealer in town now that the other shops closed up. I wish them well, and would recommend them to any Spyder Ryder for service. :2thumbs:

DPS problems, it has been a long and hard road, more for some than others.

But I for one am very glad to see after all this time the recall to hopefully once and for all address the dreaded DPS problem.

I am glad that finally BRP is seeming to be "doing the right thing" in replacing these DPS units that now seem to have had a major design defect all along.

I know this is not going to be an easy recall to do, or to pay for on their end. I can only imagine what the price tag for all this will turn out to be? :yikes:

I'm sure there will be some snags along the way, with parts shortages at first and waits at the dealers to get inline for service. But I think overall it is going to be a very good thing.

I know I for one am glad to finally see some "light at the end of the DPS tunnel," and look forward to everyone finally getting some closure on this topic.

I hope you all can get your recall done in a fast seemless manner.

I got off early on Friday and, being the smart person I am, I offered to take my wife to Canton, TX for 1st Monday Trade Days. Well, before we got on the road, she decided she wanted to hit the casinos in Shreveport, LA. We stopped at Cracker Barrel for breakfast just outside of Shreveport and, what do I see, a beautiful blue RT in the parking lot. Of course I spent some time admiring it and, when the riders left, they did the same with mine.

We spent the night at Sam's Town, got up Saturday morning and decided we weren't ready to head home. Off to Marksville, LA we go to visit the Paragon Casino. I-49 is a great ride! (except for those sneaky highway patrol guys hiding in the trees) We walk in the front door of the Paragon and what do we see? A brand new RT up for grabs as a jackpot on a 2 cent slot machine.

We spent Saturday night in Natchitoches, LA and then decided to head home. Of course we played 20 questions with the curious people along the way. Even had one Harley rider follow us into a picnic area because "he had always wanted to see one up close".

The weather was great and the Spyder ran great!

Sometimes the best plans are the ones not made!

I am so sick at heart and so dam upset with BRP I could spit nails. My Spyder PE #2683 burst into flames this afternoon. I had went to Costco and filled up with gas. I took the long way home about a 15 mile ride. When I got home I check my email then went back out and started up the Spyder for another short ride, I backed up about 6 or 8 feet then took off to go out my driveway. I didn’t get two feet before black smoke came out from between the yellow tank cover and black side covers. Before I could react I had went 5 more feet there was whoosh & another bigger puff of black smoke and I bailed off the Spyder. It continued on about 10 or 12 more feet and hit the tree alongside my drive way. When I looked over at it there was flame about a foot high in front of the front seat. By the time I got to the garage the flames were 2 feet high and covered most of the tank cover and part of the front seat. I cannot believe how fast it burnt. By the time the fire department got here there was not much left. ‘
I wonder what happened to the other people who’s Spyders burnt up. I looked but never did see anything more about what happened to their Spyders. There will not be any fixing this one that’s for sure. It sizzled when the fire department hit it with the hoses. Sick sick sick.

Thank you all for your wishes and I will keep you informed. I have had fuel smell since I bought the Spyder new 18 months ago. I have had all service done at BRP dealerships. Over flow canister was replaced months ago but the smell has been off and on.
Not really sure what happened. Been playing it over and over in my mind but can't really even guess what happed. I do believe what ever happened started on the right side but couldn't even say that for sure. Just happens so dam fast..But again thanks. I will be calling BRP in the morning and Allstate claims department.
