Gday,
Have had the genuine system installed by the dealer on my 2011 RT Ltd SE5 and am getting an electrical interference through the headset speakers when changing gear and sitting at idle. Has anyone had this problem and if so what was the fix. Also should I be able to hear the Garmin GPS through the system as well. It is the factory fit also. Any help appreciated. Unfortunately the dealer wrench is no expert on these things and is struggling to get info out of BRP here in OZ.
cheers

Well, I did it. Heading to Cuba next week on a 470 mile plus trip to pick up a Bronze RT Limited, RT-622 Trailer, Elkas, Communication system, pegs, armrests, back rest, etc.

Thanks for all the great threads about Len and Cowtown. Really nice to know that they are tops, as other than a 45 minute test ride, I know little about these machines. While riding my GL1800 with others, we would scratch our heads and wonder " What, and Why ?" when we spotted these "bass-ackwards" trike like oddities.

Being one that likes being the different one in the group, that again I will now be. I was the odd one when I rode the BMW K1200LT, and then conformed and got the Wing. I'm really looking forward to becoming Spiderized, and hope to have a trouble free experience.

Will be riding 500 plus miles of back roads to return to central KY next week, and can't wait to experience it.

My wife and I ride some fairly long trips, and the Wing and BMW carried us in comfort and reliability. I will hang onto the Wing for a while, just in case the Spyder does not work out. LOL. Likely, there will be a greatLoaded GL1800 and Bushtec trailer for sale in the future.

I hope to have her drive the Spyder sometimes, so I can take naps like she has always done. She rides a little Yamaha, but never the larger bikes. Will plan to meet some folks out and about, and will plan to come to Spyderfest next time. ;)

2010 RT SE5. I took the side panels off and the splash pan off to change the oil and filters. It is a 1 year change, not yet 3k miles. Had the 600 mile service done at the dealer.

Drained the oil tank fine. When I went to loosen the engine drain plug the wrench just spun. The friggin dealer stripped the head of the bolt. :cus:

I put the oil back in rather than ruin new filters and waste the new oil on a partial change.

Any ideas on how to get that stinking plug out??

Other than the dealer, are there any sources for a new drain plug??

Do setting the front shocks at 4 or 5 (2012), improve high speed handling or just cornering? I'm currently set on 4 and am very comfortable in the turns and also at high speeds. Only issue I have is buffeting when behind large trucks. (yes I'm soft on the controls). I've read many Elka threads where it is specifically mentioned that handling is improved near trucks. I've also read a couple of threads where the smaller windshield helped this issue also. Pardon my confusion but lots of folks say there is no real issue and it's rider caused BUT lots of folks say this non existing problem is solved with Elka shocks and/or smaller windshields. Since the Elkas tend to be stiffer and raise the front end it seems to make sense to set the stock shocks at the highest setting...I also have the low touring windshield on order for heat reduction and personal preference. Opinions?

Help!!!

The gal at DMV says I have to expose the engine serial number as well as the one that is stamped on the frame. Per her she has to lay her eyes on them. Period, end of statement. No argument. I can either do it for her or take the Spyder to the CHP and per her they will take it apart to find them. A REAL SWEETIE SHE IS!!!!!!!

So, how much tuper ware (which pieces) do I need to remove to expose what is called out on page 160 in the owners manual, because she WAS NOT satisfied with the information on the stick on label attached to the swing arm.

Grrrr!!!

Thanks

I finally bit the bullet & bought a set of floorboards for my RT, and picked the Sealfloorboards. John has these made about 15 miles from my home, so I not only saved shipping, I got to meet the production team - very nice guys John.

Installation was truly easy, and the main bolts are long enough to put the weights back on. However, my bride is TALL (5'11"), and the passenger floorboards will not go low enough with the Seals installed - she prefers to have them removed, and use the back of the Seals - which is OK, I guess.

I had aluminium construction in the back of my mind, but they are powder-coated steel, and very robust (bit heavy too). Don't drop one during the install.

Once installed, the Seals make the Spyder feel even more like a newer ATV, with the built in 'boards - not a bad thing - and adjusting to the new brake position takes a bit of thought, at first - but the system works. I will attest that even with only 50 miles on them, you will find a comfortable foot position - or probably several.

I had "scuff guards" on, as my highway pegs - and they must be removed - and left off - to install the Seal boards. I was also concerned that the engine heat would be more noticeable, and that is not the case - in fact, the opposite is true.

All-in-all, these were a pleasant surprise, and worth the effort and cost.

Hi there,

I have had my Spyder now for exactly one month, and up until now, I've used a soft, wet cloth to wipe the windshield with just plain water, and done the same for any parts that were dusty or a little dirty.

Now it's time for a proper wash, but I wanted to check with everyone to see if there are tips and tricks to get a good result, and not do any damage.

Would using Zip Wax Wash be okay? Do you guys wet down the whole vehicle, or just carefully do it section by section? Is water okay on the seat? Are there any areas I should avoid spraying with a hose?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!
